I knew she was a go-getter, super positive, happy, a big personality — all because of her friends that know her and affirm her. Her Soul Sisters. Do you want to be a light bearer or one who points out darkness? HOW do you share that light? 💡 I was confronted by this question a few days ago. I felt like this question was trying to pick a fight with me (so I brought the fight to you too)!I realized that this was my own humanity looking me in the face questioning who I really am. 🤯 I’d like to think I am a light seeker and light-sharer, but more often than I realize- I’m doing the opposite. I’m silently judging others even though I love them. I’m a critic because I love to look for the ways that things can be even better, but this gets in the way if people don’t know my heart. 💔 This breaks my heart because there is already enough darkness in this world. I do not want to add to it. Like Lisa Bevere says in her book Lioness Arising -“Though we behold darkness, we are to declare light.” This is who I want to be. I want to seek light and be light to others living in a dark world... from my girlfriends out there making it through life to the people I don't know on the streets and in stores. 😁 Here's some practical ways that I am going to be a light bearer today: I'm going to smile and be welcoming of others. I'm going to talk to people I don't know, asking them questions about themselves. I'm going to tell people they are beautiful today. I'm going to relax and let my kids play more instead of clean more. I'm going to spend time with people who need light. What about you? 12 years. ✨ How long have you been with your significant other? It’s our anniversary today and I’m so happy that we decided LOVE IS A CHOICE. We make a choice to love each other daily or not to. I’m so glad this man makes The choice to love when I’m unloveable, when I’m sad, when I’m stressed, when I’m having a hard day. The choice to love me when I’m happy, when I’m crazy, when I’m fun, when I’m having a great day. 😍 Marriage is one of those things that gets better with age. It really is. Yesterday, as we celebrated throughout the day- we started a list of things that are different at year 12 than they were at year 1. ✔️ I have to say, it’s pretty cool to see where we have come from. Most every thing on our list has gone from good to better with the exception of some of the losses we’ve experienced over the years. But those things, those people we are missing have brought more depth into our relationship. We experience each other in a different way now. It’s pretty cool. 😭 No, our marriage isn’t perfect. Yes, we had a really rough first few years of marriage. But it was worth it. It’s worth it to learn how to put someone else’s needs above your own (and vice versa) and begin to experience a full and deep life. I don’t think year 1 me (20 years old) would have been able to comprehend the depth of this at year 12. I can’t wait for years 20 30 50 I hope you have a chance to experience the fullness and depth of a relationship like this. It can be hard and scary at times. I want to love being on adventures and stop passing up opportunities to go on them! What about YOU?! (Also, IS getting outdoors rejuvenating for you??) Like I've said before, we are trying to get outdoors more. We have visited 3 National Parks this year - I love being out in nature, but not sleeping in it. Mostly because of bugs. Who's with me?? Please tell me I'm not alone (a wuss)! 😖 Well, Christmas came a little early this year in the form of some @sawyerproducts! Did you know they make insect repellent for YOUR GEAR, CLOTHING, and TENTS?!?! How was I not aware of this sooner? This is a perfect gift for the outdoorsy person in your life! 🤯 It takes me a while to fall asleep when we are tent camping because I can SERIOUSLY hear the bugs in my tent and around me. It drives me a little nuts, honestly. This stuff is family and gear safe and includes an odorless after drying insect repellent that repels and kills mosquitoes, ticks, and spiders for 6 WEEKS or 6 WASHES. 🙌 Meaning, I can prep the gear prior to leaving! YES!! So, we spent some time prepping for the Hell's Gate Wilderness trip at the beginning of January. @gablelegaspi always wants me to go on this annual trip, but I'm not so sure... What kind of new things have you and your significant other started doing in this season of life? That’s me and my hubby in the pic - no, I didn’t cut my hair. This pic is from last year! My hubby started doing more rugged, adventurous stuff in the last few years, and I am trying to embrace it as much as I can (I like adventures, but I also like nice, comfy beds and running water). 🤷‍♀️ I'm really trying to find ways to make it something that I can and want to do!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🤩⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This year, we made a goal to visit at least 3 National Parks every year until our kids are out of the house. We have visited 4 so far this year! It has been super fun, but I know I am not made for camping. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Like, real, camping. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's hard on this city-raised, convenience-loving person I am. LOL. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🤗⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you are an outdoorsy person, please let me in on your secrets to making the outdoors more comfortable!! A few things I learned on our recent trip are:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Get a nice mattress for camping. It sucks waking up half-way on the floor with an air mattress! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Go when you can have an open-fire. Camping needs a real campfire, in my opinion. A place to hang out with friends, chat, and snack. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Get better pest repellent! I hate the bugs around my dinner so much!! I'll share more tomorrow about a product we recently got to help with pests. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. Make sure your tent is waterproofed. Yep.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 5.
